INSPIRED AFTER A DRIVE THROUGH SOUTH AFRICA
Do You Know How Lucky You Are?

We focus on words that could possibly, maybe, one day offend one person
Argue over lines to draw for okay, not okay, and sometimes okay cursing.
It’s ‘If Trumps not the president the economy could most likely worsen’
or ‘Trump’s a racist, sexist, potentially dangerous person’
But do you know how lucky you are?
Racism is still an issue we try and sometimes fail to tackle
Sexism exists to say the least, though some might heckle
The world seems to swing like Mr. Hyde to Dr. Jeckyl
You dress in a new way and fear for the inevitable cackle
But do you know how lucky you are?
There are people who can’t imagine the world which we live
People still learning how to begin to forgive
the issues of the deep past that they carry with
lead by corruption older and harder than a monolith
They still call people the Blacks and the whites
you cross certain borders, then everybody bites
racist slurs thrown around left and right,
interracial couples and gays still see no light, or right to begin to fight.
don’t judge them, hate them, these people aren’t lesser
It’s just, mom’s got a baby and has nothing to dress her.
The government is stealing, cheating, and believe it, things messier
People live in huts in the dirt cause they have never known better.
How can a women think about equal pay,
When she doesn’t even know she deserves to have a say
How does a black man know he can be CEO
When the world of education is one he doesn’t know
one not encouraged, dreamed of, or spoken,
As for Lady luck? He doesn’t even know em
so next time you’re sick of the social problems, count your blessings
you are in a place where you can argue and debate these lessons
You are far up the hierarchy of desire, miss,
Whether rich or poor, your wealthy in awareness
Agree or disagree, we are reaching towards fairness
The pendulum swing will one day be worth this
We are offended by adverts, Christmas songs, and our presidents cheer
because we have Boss lady’s, stay at home dads, and equal marriage here.
Things could be better, but remember somewhere they are much worse
You can care, You can speak, and you’re not in a hearse.
Think again now, peace might seem far,
But do you sincerely know how lucky you are?
